Charlie Sheen was arrested Friday at 11:20 a.m. on domestic violence charges. The Two and a Half Men star was booked for second-degree assault, menacing and criminal mischief, according to a spokesperson for the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Department in Aspen, Colo. “Carlos Irwin Estevez, also known as the actor Charles I. Sheen, was brought to the Pitkin County Colorado Jail for booking and incarceration following his arrest by the Aspen Police Department,” Pitkin County Sheriffs Office patrol director Jeff Lumsden said in a statement.

The actor’s rep, Stan Rosenfield, tells PEOPLE, “Do not be mislead by appearance. Appearance and reality can be as different as night and day. It would benefit everyone not to jump to any conclusion.” [...]

Carlos Estévez was born and educated in Havana, Cuba, graduating from the Instituto Superior de Arte in 1992. Estévez also studied conservation and restoration at the Instituto, photography at the Fototeca de Cuba, and film at the International School of Film and Television in Havana. Though his supplemental studies have focused on photography and film, many of Estévez’s most recent works involve installation, sculpture, painting, and drawing. He paints and draws in diverse mediums such as watercolor, ink, pastel, and pencil to produce dynamic images of human and animal forms over technical, linear drawings. These figures often reference constellations and the greater space of the cosmos by using lines to connect star-like dots, while at the same time they remain grounded in human space by allusion to marionette puppets.

His most recent solo exhibitions include Dreamcomber, Bakalar Gallery, Massachusetts College of Art, Boston (2002); The Dark Theater, Alva Gallery, New London, Connecticut (2002); and Theatre of Life, Courturier Gallery, Los Angeles (2001). Recent group exhibitions include Chicago Art Fair (2002) and Séptima Bienal de La Habana, Cuba (2000). His work is included in collections in Cuba, Mexico, Brazil, Germany, Spain, and the United States. Estévez lives and works in Havana.
