Indonesian Quake

Indonesia 1 October 2009 | 0 Comments

As rescue workers searched for survivors in the wreckage of a four-story school Thursday, Mira Utami’s mother clawed away, too  looking for the shoes missing from her daughter’s body. Mira was taking a high school English final when the quake hit, flattening the school in seconds and killing her a week before her 16th birthday.

“We had planned to celebrate … but she’s gone,” said her mother, Malina, weeping amid the wreckage where the barefoot body was found.

John Holmes, the U.N.’s humanitarian chief, set the death toll at 1,100, and the number was expected to grow. Government figures put the number of dead at 777, with at least 440 people seriously injured.

Indonesia’s Economy Grows

Economy, Indonesia, Money, Politic 25 August 2009 | 0 Comments

Indonesia’s gross domestic product grew by 4% in the second quarter compared to the same period a year ago, Statistics Indonesia reported on Monday on its Web site. This was the slowest pace since 2003, but was slightly better than consensus estimates, said analysts at RBC Capital Markets.

“Indonesia is less exposed to the global downturn that most other Asian economies and domestic demand appears to have held up well, with consumption and government spending recording solid year-on-year growth,” the analysts wrote in a note to clients. “Growth is likely to pick up in coming quarters, suggesting last week’s policy rate cut by the central bank represents the end to its easing cycle.” Jakarta’s JSX Composite stock index rose 1.7% on Monday. The index has rallied 76% this year

When is Ramadan in 2009?

Indonesia, Religius 21 August 2009 | 1 Comment

When is Ramadan in 2009?

ramadhan 2009Ramadan in 2009 will start on Friday, the 21st of August and will continue for 30 days until Saturday, the 19th of September.

Based on sightability in North America, in 2009 Ramadan will start in North America a day later – on Saturday, the 22nd of August.

Note that in the Muslim calander, a holiday begins on the sunset of the previous day, so observing Muslims will celebrate Ramadan on the sunset of Thursday, the 20th of August.

Although Ramadan is always on the same day of the Islamic calendar, the date on the Gregorian calendar varies from year to year, since the Gregorian calendar is a solar calendar and the Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar. This difference means Ramadan moves in the Gregorian calendar approximately 11 days every year. The date of Ramadan may also vary from country to country depending on whether the moon has been sighted or not.

The dates provided here are based on the dates adopted by the Fiqh Council of North America for the celebration of Ramadan. Note that these dates are based on astronomical calculations to affirm each date, and not on the actual sighting of the moon with the naked eyes. This approach is accepted by many, but is still being hotly debated.

Behaviour, Blog, Indonesia 23 May 2009 | 0 Comments

Actually this is a little funny, I found this news from local newspaper, but its really like a surprised I also this news from the tumblr blogging, from this site soupsoup.

here is this quote from that site.

After Facebook, NU targets mobile phone calls between sexes

buyhercandy:

Many have been shocked to learn that 1,700 Muslim clerics of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) — the largest Muslim organization in Indonesia — have issued an edict banning communication between sexes using mobile phones, and online social networks such as Facebook. …

NU spokesman Abdul Muid Shohib said communication using mobile phones was prone to adultery, especially between the sexes.

“Communicating through mobile phones could lead to extramarital affairs,” Abdul told The Jakarta Post through his mobile.

The only communication allowed between different sexes is that which spreads Islamic teachings, he said.

“We have banned social networking such as Facebook, Friendster and others because they are not used to spread Islamic teachings, but for gossiping,” he said.

Indonesia needs more Job, Isn’t it? :D

The Commitments

The Commitments

commitments“The quality of a person’s life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence, regardless of their chosen field of endeavor.”

~ Vince Lombardi ~

Ones of the famous problem for most politics is keeps the commitments when they were on campaign about their problem an all the mission when they become the leader, and it’s more than in politic arena, in most cases of us.

Don’t make any appointments if we can’t give the best, I don’t know, this could only happened in our cultural or most of us, Indonesia in case. The old traditional Javanese could not say “NO, I can’t!” and this is become the bad words if we say it trough the others.

We just realize that to fulfill the commitments was not so easy, at least this is from my personal opinion, but we must have to say no if we think we should to do it.

This cultural is the opposite, in any cultural, it’s a normal to say no, when they should, and the others will say its okay and no problem, not in ours.

Commitments, it’s not so easy.

Superstars Of Dance

danceSuperstars of Dance begins on NBC at 9 PM, and when I try to reads and focused on it inconsistantly, I  just found one comment for this news in ones of the blog, here is the comentator said, “I have enjoyed  this fantastic dancing. The only problem that I have seen here with this program are the judges. They  seem to be very bias with certain countries. I was highly applaud at their judging with low scores to  some of the best performances that have performed compared to some that were just ok. example: USA,  South Africa and India. The judges that I feel that fall into this catorgy are Argentina, Australia,  South Africa and Ireland. The host of the show would have done a much better judging the show himself  because he knows critic when he see it. Very disappointed in the judging of this program “

I don’t know, becaused I’m not ones of the judge.

Firstly, according to my humble opinion, it just happend on the developing country only such as  Indonesia, Uh… imagine that our country join on that event. The judge bias to certain country, sounds  semm familiar in Indonesia, but its happend to int big international event such as Superstar Dance that  will be presented.

Name

Just try to type the words “tony” on google image search engine, and its suprising me, I found this picture on the first page.

Why? let say its just a curious, how famous that name on google search engine, and Hmmmm… so so, its not too bad at all.

Around billion people living in one planet, call earth, how many people have the sama name? just the first name or completely name? I don’t know, anyone have the valid source? or someone already try to find and compare?.

How important to have a unique name? or people feel that they will just wasting their time to think a name?, like the famous shakespeare quote “what is a name?”, and what about the reaction when the first time we introduce ourself and say “I’m tony” and they said “wow… the good name” or “beautiful name” or just “nice to meet you”. hehehehehe…..

Hopely, the books that I have been read on the book store “how to give a name” become the best seller.  Did we are similar anyway? :D
