McCurry shows milanoTempo ago, when I was asked “Let’s go see the exhibition of Steve McCurry?” I said, “Okay, who?”. I think it’s the standard answer. Then put your name on Google and discover that you knew very well who he is.
Steve McCurry is a photographer. Or a photojournalist, depending on how you want to describe his work. We’ve all seen his lovely and charming green-eyed Afghan woman and his landscapes and his portraits of oriental exotic colors. Only that we had never given a name to the photographer, as often happens when we face an image that seduces us, and we care little, at first, to know where it comes from.
Here, comes from a talented eye capable of surprise, wonder, worry and excite. Feel inclined to stand still staring at them, some shots, until they are so deeply a part of our cornea to become almost a part of our memories, even though those countries have never been in those faces, and we never cross.
It’s been over a year by Steve McCurry’s monograph on the Palazzo della Ragione in Milan and beginning to wonder when and where I will again be allowed to take a trip through his eyes.
