PART TWO:
MUSIC HELPS WITH MOVEMENT DISORDER!
As many of you know that follow my blog, playing and singing are things I have done all my life. It is amazing how the limitations of Parkinson’s Plus affect me in every instance of my life, and yet, somehow, I have been able to continue to sing and play. There is a part of our brain which is commonly referred to as the RIGHT BRAIN, in which the activity for music and the arts takes place. This area of our brain holds the memory of these abilities and in that sense, in my layman’s terms, helps us overcome the movement difficulties that are so pervasive in this disease. Using rhythm activities– singing, playing an instrument, and clapping– are great therapy for you with neuro-degenerative diseases, as well.
Loud singing is advocated as a way to combat the voice and speech troubles that affect Parkinson’s and Parkinson’s Plus patients. I am testament to the fact that if you stay at it in life (I WILL GO ON!), you may be able to maintain abilities longer than you would have otherwise. I would like to think that this is true, and my continuing to write, play guitar and sing, are all profiting me in this way.
