SHOCKtober! Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer

Honestly, I can’t recommend seeing this movie. There are just some things you can’t unsee, and I wish I had never watched it. There are some scenes in this flick that will stay with me until the day I die.

But that’s not to say Henry’s not a good movie. It is absolutely haunting, shocking, and stunningly crafted. Filmed on an incredibly low budget, the story is a fictional tale about real-life serial killer Henry Lee Lucas and his partner in crime, Ottis Toole, named “Otis” in the movie. Michael Rooker is absolutely amazing at Henry and Tom Towles is pitch perfect as the dim-witted Otis. Together, these two go on absurdly graphic murder rampages, terrorizing an entire city. But along the way, Henry falls for Otis’s cousin Becky, which complicates matters significantly.

Again, if you can stomach disturbing images and extremely violent footage, there’s no denying Henry’s quality as a film. Just keep the kids out of the room and prepare yourselves: this is not a good-time slasher flick.
