Cindy Zarzycki

cindy_zarzyckiCindy’s full name was “Cynthia Jocelyn Zarzycki” but she was well known to her friends by the name “Cindy Jo”. Cindy would have been a 36 year old woman by now if she would have not been disappeared that night it has been crucial and painful 23 years since she was disappeared from “Dairy Queen”. Cindy was 13 years old and had lived in Eastpointe, Michigan, though her parents were divorced and she was living with her father but her brother, sister and mother who were living in Eastern Detroit use to visit her frequently. Sandy loved playing softball and had even won a trophy for most valuable player on her team.

In April of 1986 Cindy (13 year old) was disappeared from “Dairy Queen” Eastpointe, Michigan at that time she was dating a boy named “Scott Ream” he later died in a car accident in the 1990’s but Scott was never been suspected in disappearance of Cindy, where as “Scott’s” father “Arthur Nelson Ream” has been a suspect from the beginning as he was convicted for taking indecent liberties with a child in1975 not only that but Ream was serving a 15-year sentence for third-degree criminal sexual behavior in the physical attack of a 14-year-old girl. This intrigued the investigators and they become suspicious. According to authorities, Arthur Ream kept a missing person flyer regarding Cindy’s disappearance in a keepsake box with the fact that a car like “Arthurs” was spotted at the same “Dairy Queen” approximately the time he was to allegedly meet Cindy. Witnesses said that they saw Cindy at the Dairy Queen shortly before her disappearance eating an ice cream cone.

It was later discovered by the investigators from Cindy’s friend that Cindy had planned to meet “Arthur” at the “Diary Queen” he wants to take Cindy to a surprise birthday party of his son “Scott” at the morning of her disappearance, later it was discovered that no such party had ever taken place.

Authorities give in that their case is mainly incidental and Cindy’s body has never been found. Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith said that “There was no DNA in this case”, and “There’s no gun”.

The family of Cindy may finally have some conclusion. According to Cindy’s father Ed “Sometimes you lean to feel lost and beyond, it just gives you hope that no one forgot, that someone cares enough to bring it back”.

Prosecutors were offered a deal by Arthur in the last-minute he said “I would guide the investigators to Cindy’s body in a trade for a shortened sentence guilty statement”. Cindy’s family approved but it never happened. Prosecutors deduced that maybe it was a trick to buy some time because if Arthur lead them to the body, the case would have been delayed until DNA test came in, and they are not willing to do so and today Arthur Ream who was held by the authorities on a rape charges and is also convicted for abusing a child, was found guilty of first-degree murder.

Cindy’s body was finally recovered in July, 2008. Friday 17th April a two-hour “Dateline NBC” show was airing at 9 p.m. The show, “Dairy Queen”, details the 1986 disappearance of 13-year-old Cindy Zarzycki, whose killer, Arthur Ream, was convicted last year of murder before leading police to her body, which he’d buried on a plot of rural Macomb Township land.
