New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts staged another mesmerizing show at the renowned Kennedy Center Opera House on Thursday.
Martha and Peter came to see the show after learning about it in the newspaper.
“We thought it was wonderful! The costumes were so beautiful, the dancing was so beautiful. It was very, very nice,” said Martha, a makeup artist and an arts enthusiast.
Shen Yun’s unique performances feature Chinese classical dance and music. Many of the dance performances carry storylines displaying heroic legends or other themes in ancient and contemporary China. The show also boasts world-renowned Chinese vocalists and a live orchestra.
“I love dancing, so I really enjoyed the dancers and the costumes. And the music was very beautiful.”
Martha said she saw the spirituality of Chinese culture through the show. She also praised the show’s creativity and said the costumes were colorful and beautiful. “I loved the piece where they were like cherry blossoms, like flowers—and the water. I just thought it was very creative.”
Martha’s husband, Peter, a businessman, also enjoyed the show. “I enjoyed the dancing, I enjoyed the costumes, I enjoyed the music, the orchestra, and even the artists who were singing with the piano accompaniment,” he said.
“I enjoyed the whole [show]. It was something different for us.”
Shen Yun will stage four more shows in Washington, D.C., from Aug. 28 to 30.
